Meet Flynn Ringrose

Meet Flynn Ringrose, one of the creative forces behind our Game Design Bootcamp. With a career that spans the film, television, and gaming industries, Flynn brings a powerful mix of creative insight and hands-on industry experience into every class. Whether you're crafting your first game mechanic or building immersive worlds, he's here to guide you from concept to creation. Connect with Flynn on LinkedIn.

A Creative Path Shaped by Storytelling and Play

For Flynn, game design isn't just a career—it's the natural evolution of a lifelong passion for storytelling and imaginative play. Growing up immersed in Dungeons & Dragons adventures, he discovered early on how narrative, collaboration, and worldbuilding could come together to create unforgettable experiences. That passion led him to study game development at George Brown College in Toronto, where he graduated in 2013.

After gaining industry experience in Toronto, Flynn moved to Halifax and joined Red Meat Games as an Unreal Developer and Artist, working on multiplayer console titles. Today, he is also the Co-Founder of Cycada Games, an indie studio he launched with his wife to bring their own creative visions to life.

Teaching With Creative Intention

With teaching experience dating back to 2014 as a tutor at George Brown College and an assistant at Schoolism, Flynn knows how to foster growth in aspiring game designers. His approach is intuitive, allowing students to explore while offering structured guidance when it matters most.

“There comes a moment when I can stop leading, step aside, and allow the student to figure out the next step entirely on their own. Those are the most memorable moments, and they're different for each student.”

Flynn has been mentoring aspiring designers since 2014 and has a knack for explaining complex ideas in simple, engaging ways. His classroom is full of experimentation, storytelling, and encouragement, and Unreal Engine is their sandbox.

“Start with your biggest brush. Don't worry about the little details at first. Focus on the big picture—and let the rest follow.”

Advice for Future Game Designers

“Make sure you love it! Great games come from great passion.”

For Flynn, staying current is essential—whether it's following industry news, playing new releases with an analytical eye, or simply continuing to create. He believes the best way to grow is to keep experimenting and remain curious.

His favourite part of teaching? Watching students bring everything they've learned together in their final projects—and seeing just how far they've come.
