[Instructor Spotlight] Terry McLean: Helping The Next Generation of Product Managers Thrive

Meet Terry McLean

Terry is a seasoned product management expert and our Product Management Bootcamp instructor, with decades of experience across industries like finance, healthcare, and digital consulting. Her career reflects the dynamic nature of the field—she began as a business analyst before transitioning into product management, eventually moving into consulting and education.

“I love a fast-paced workplace, so consulting was the perfect fit for me,” Terry says.

Her career path reflects the dynamic, ever-evolving nature of product management. Before moving into consulting, she built a strong foundation as a Business Analyst across multiple industries, including financial services and healthcare. With a natural curiosity and drive to improve how products are built and delivered, the transition into product management was a seamless next step.

Currently, as a consultant at Apply Digital, Terry helps clients launch and optimize digital products. Her past roles include Product Manager at Loblaw Digital, where she led marketing website initiatives, and Product Manager at Telus Health, managing software for electronic medical records.

Beyond her industry work, Terry is a passionate educator with over 15 years of teaching experience. She has taught at the Wisconsin School of Business in the Center for Professional & Executive Development and at George Brown College in the IT Business Analysis program.

Terry’s Teaching Philosophy: Interactive & Practical Learning

Terry’s classes are far from passive lectures—they’re immersive workshops focused on real-world problem-solving. She believes in engaging students by asking them how they would apply concepts in their own work, ensuring the learning experience is both interactive and immediately useful.

“I get tired of hearing my own voice when I teach, so I like to ask participants a lot of questions about their experiences and how they might use the tools and techniques being presented in class.”

Terry stays ahead of industry trends through a mix of product management podcasts and insights from his consulting firm’s R&D department. And when it comes to tech trends, she’s clear:

“Use AI as much as you possibly can to make your life easier and your work more efficient.”

Beyond Product Management: Sailing, Running & the Great Outdoors

Outside of work, Terry finds balance in the great outdoors. She enjoys sailing small Albacore boats, reading, running, and gardening. Much of her free time is spent at her partner’s country home, where she can often be found boating or riding ATVs.
