Meet Darius Fang, a recent Computer Engineering graduate who decided to pivot into game development. By combining his love for gaming with his technical skills in programming and software development practices, Darius set out on a journey to create something he could truly be proud of. Reflecting on his decision, Darius shared, “After I graduated, I realized that I wanted to pivot into games. I had all these skills that could be applied to game development, and I wanted to see firsthand how to tackle problems when making games and create something I was proud of. A significant motivator for this shift was also the opportunity to expand my professional network.”

Pursuing a Passion in Game Development

Darius’s journey into game development wasn’t just about refining his technical abilities; it was also about personal growth and embracing new challenges. He emphasized how the bootcamp pushed him to develop in areas he hadn't previously explored.

“I’ve enhanced my game development skills by applying provided resources and practicing with outside courses while improving my soft skills through interactions with like-minded peers. Along the way, I've met incredible individuals who have helped me grow in various aspects, both technically and personally. The career program has also been invaluable in strengthening my online presence.”

Achievements and Milestones

One of Darius’s proudest achievements was his capstone project. This final project was a culmination of everything he had learned in the bootcamp and built upon his previous experience. Creating and iterating on his portfolio was initially one of the most challenging aspects of the course. “Throughout the bootcamp, I learned that creating something great requires consistency and dedication. The excitement of sharing something you're truly passionate about is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have.”

Advice for Future Students

Darius believes that consistency and dedication are key to success in game development. His advice to future students?

“If you want to make games, programming is essential—there's no way around it, especially if you want to build something on your own. Even with a bit of programming experience, the bootcamp offers a great balance between being challenging and fun. If you enjoy the process of making games but don't know where to start, I would recommend this course.”
